Die Puppe

Die Puppe poster by Theo Matejko.
Nukke / Nürnbergerdockan. DE 1919. PC: Union. D: Ernst Lubitsch. SC: Hanns Kräly, Lubitsch - freely based on A.E. Wilner's play. DP: Theodor Sparkuhl. FX: Kurt Waschneck. PD+COST: Kurt Richter. Starring: Ossi Oswalda (Ossi), Hermann Thimig (Lancelot), Victor Janson (Hilarius), Jacob Tiedtke (the abbot), Gerhard Ritterband (the apprentice). Filmarchiv Austria: tinted and toned print, /20 fps/ 57 min. E-subtitles by AA. Viewed at Cinema Orion, Helsinki, 31 Jan 2008. Maybe the most delightful of Lubitsch's German comedies, mixing comedy with satire and fairy-tale. The mechanical doll theme has its links with Hoffmann and Lessing. I saw for the first time this Viennese print from vintage tinted and toned material.
